day introduction weekend.
The introduction course will give you a taster day kayaking. All equipment
is provided to make the day a comfortable one. River strokes will help you to
learn the fundamental paddling skills required to safely control a kayak. The
day will be taken at a pace to suit a first time kayaker with regular breaks
and plenty of chat. You will benefit from Small group sizes, with a maximum
of 6 paddlers on the course in total.
NOTE: With a group booking of 4 or more the course will be
closed to your group or family only.

AM - 9.30- 10.00am
Meeting at the centre for a brew and a chat about the day ahead. We Will kit
you out with a safety gear and make sure you are comfortable in the boat.
Once you have had a safety brief we will load the minibus and travel to the
river.
As part of a small group you will be introduced to paddling the kayak in a straight
line. Requiring some practice small tips and advice will help you get control.
The first control strokes will be demonstrated and taught.
Lunch: 12.30pm
The midday break offers a time to relax and watch the river float by. Many options
available if you do not remember the packed lunch, a river café and local
garage can provide a good selection.
PM - 1.30pm
The afternoon session we involve a recap of control strokes and assist you with
any aspect of the forward paddling technique and improve your confidence in
a kayak. At the end of the day if you feel comfortable a cap size drill can
be taught and practiced to really give you the confidence to enjoy kayaking!
De-brief – 4.00pm
Once back at the centre and changed with a brew in hand, the group will gather
the days thoughts and personal feedback will help you progress to the next stages.
You will need!
- A suitable warm base layer, avoid cotton if possible.
- Suitable footware, wetsuit booties are great.
- Bring warm clothing to use at lunch and to change into after a day on the
river.
